Some information for the vegetarians:  Tussah, or wild silk, is made by gathering cocoons from the wild after the moths have emerged, so it is suitable for vegetarians.

Commercial silk production kills the silkworm. Conventional silk is made by boiling the intact cocoons and unwinding the single silk strand onto reels. Only a few moths are allowed to emerge to continue the population of silkworms. The rest are killed by being boiled in their cocoons. This is done so the silk fibers are not broken and can be reeled off in a continuous strand. However, the silk can still be spun like other fibers if the moths are allowed to emerge.

Our crinkle scarves and some of our bags re made in Vietnam by an organisation who’s mission is to produce and sell Vietnamese handicraft products that are made under fair trade conditions. There aim is to expand their customer base so that they can in turn expand workshop capacity, which helps to provide more secure and decent employment opportunities to disadvantaged women and farmers. They provide life changing training in tailoring skills and bring smiles to these two extremely marginalized groups in society.
